SIBU: A jobless man was sentenced to a year in prison by the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday (Nov 4) after he pleaded guilty to forging another person's personal documents to obtain a RM3,500 loan from a licensed money lender.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar ordered the accused, Robert Liun, 23, to serve the sentence effective Thursday.

According to the brief facts of the case, at about noon on July 27, 2021, the accused went to the money lender's premises with the photocopy of an MyKad and payslip of another person but claimed that they were his.

After going through the documents, the money lender, who was the owner of the shop, believed that they were genuine and subsequently approved the loan.

On Aug 21, the money lender called up the phone number which the accused had earlier said was his but the number was not in service.

He then called a furniture shop which the accused had claimed that he was working at but was told that the accused had never been an employee.

Feeling cheated, the victim lodged a police report which resulted in the arrest of the accused.
