Cops divert traffic around Bangsar ahead of Azam Baki demonstration, five roads closed

       PETALING JAYA: Five roads around the Bangsar LRT station have been closed since 7am on Saturday (Jan 22) in anticipation of a street protest, the police said.

       Brickfields district police chief ACP Amihizam Abdul Shukor said diversions have been set up at:

       - Jalan Bangsar

       - The turn off into Jalan Bangsar Utama

       - Jalan Travers, heading towards Jalan Bangsar

       - Jalan Rakyat, heading towards Jalan Bangsar

       - Jalan Maarof, heading towards Jalan Bangsar

       Besides the road diversions, ACP Amihizam also said the operations of the MRT, LRT, Monorail and KTM - including the Bangsar LRT station - will be temporarily closed from 7am until the end of the rally.

       The planned demonstration at 11am today is to demand action against Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

       The rally organisers decided to move the gathering point of the protest to the bridge near Bangsar LRT, after police announced that the initial point of Sogo shopping mall as a prohibited area.

       “Members of the public with any matters in Kuala Lumpur especially near the Bangsar LRT station are advised to plan their journeys ahead.

       “For the sake of peace, safety and health, the public is advised not to partake in any activities that go against the law or prevailing Covid-19 standard operating procedures,” said ACP Amihizam in a statement.
