IPOH: The case involving a homestay guest charged with the murder of a 64-year-old security guard has been set for mention on Nov 26 while waiting for the deceased’s medical report.

Magistrate Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus set the date yesterday in the absence of the accused, Ahmad Noor Azhar Muhammad.

Lawyer M. Kulasegaran, who is watching brief for the family, asked the court why the accused was not present in court.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sufi Aiman upon being questioned by the magistrate said the accused was under quarantine at the Taiping prison.

The 33-year-old businessman, who had assaulted the security guard in December last year at a homestay in a condominium, was charged on Sept 9 with murder.

This is after the security guard died on Aug 27 this year at his house.

The accused was represented by lawyer Ariff Azami Hussein.

According to the charge sheet, Ahmad Noor was accused of murdering S. Thava Sagayam on Dec 29 last year, between 8am and 9.30am on the 7th floor of Menara Majestic on Jalan C.M Yusoff, here.

Ahmad Noor was previously charged on Jan 6 this year under Section 335 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.

After Thava died at his house on Aug 27, there was a public outcry for the suspect to be charged with murder.
