IPOH: The murder case of 64-year-old security guard S. Thava Sagayam has been transferred to the Ipoh High Court.
Magistrate Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus granted deputy public prosecutor Fatin Hosna Mohamad Zikri’s application to transfer the case involving Ahmad Noor Azhar Muhammad at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
No plea was recorded after the accused nodded that he understood the charge read out to him, as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Lawyer Ariff Azami Hussein who represented the accused asked the court to order an immediate medical check-up for Ahmad Noor who had asthma.
“My client is unwell. He has been coughing and is out of his medicine.
“I hope the court can order the prison to give him immediate medical treatment,” he said.
Lawyer M. Kulasegaran is holding a watching brief for Thava Sagayam’s family along with three other lawyers.
The 34-year-old Ahmad Noor allegedly assaulted the guard between 8am and 9.30am on Dec 29, 2020 while at a homestay in a condominium and was charged on Sept 9 with murder, following Thava Sagayam’s death on Aug 27 last year at his home.
Ahmad Noor was previously charged on Jan 6 under Section 335 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt, but he was charged with murder following a public outcry after Thava Sagayam’s death.
A new date has yet to be fixed for the case to be mentioned in the High Court.
