No investigation papers, but RCI into TH issues

NO investigation papers have been opened against any party following allegations of stolen Lembaga Tabung Haji funds, says Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary.

“This includes YB Baling (Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim), which we have often heard,” the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) said in reply to a supplementary question from Abdul Azeez during Question Time.

Abdul Azeez had asked the government to confirm whether any investigation papers were opened against the top management or board members of Tabung Haji prior to 2018, involving allegations of stolen money.

Ahmad Marzuk said the government agreed to hold a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to further preserve and improve investor confidence and protect the interests of depositors.

He said any recommendation for improvements, including the government’s guarantee on the Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB) sukuk, would be considered based on the findings of the RCI.

“This is a problem that needs to be fixed,” he added.

Replying an earlier question, Ahmad Marzuk said the government would soon announce the terms and conditions of the RCI to investigate issues related to Tabung Haji.

He said the Cabinet on July 14 this year had agreed to set up the RCI to look into Tabung Haji and related issues that occurred between 2014 and 2020.
