IPOH: Two men died after the van they were in collided with a trailer at KM331.2 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Tapah.
Both the vehicles were travelling north when the accident occurred at 12.30pm on Thursday (Sept 9).
Tapah OCPD Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the victims, who were passengers in van, had been identified as Collins Prestly Primus, 29, from Sabah, and Relano Gemar, 35, from the Philippines.
Another 25-year-old passenger from Sarawak sustained light injuries, while the 31-year-old van driver from Selangor escaped unhurt.
He said Relano, who was seated at the back, died on the spot, while Collins, who was seated in the front seat, died on the way to the hospital.
The 43-year-old trailer driver did not sustain any injuries.
Supt Wan Azharuddin said initial investigations revealed that the van driver lost control of the vehicle before hitting the back of the trailer.
"We have arrested the van driver and the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
