IPOH: A taxi driver was killed when the vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident with two lorries on KM316 of the North South Expressway near Tapah.
Tapah OCPD Supt Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said Tan Ying Ming, 54, from Subang Jaya, was killed on the spot during the 4.30am incident on Friday (Oct 1).
"We believe the accident occurred when the taxi, which was on its way to Ipoh from Kuala Lumpur, rammed into the back of a lorry transporting fruits on the left lane.
"The MPV swerved into the right lane before a second lorry, which was carrying chicken, crashed into it," he said in a statement on Friday.
"The driver was thrown out from his multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and died on the spot after sustaining severe injuries to his head.
"The MPV was a total loss as it burst into flames after the accident," he added.
Supt Wan Azharuddin said the body of the victim was sent to the Tapah Hospital forensics unit and a post-mortem is scheduled for 2pm after a Covid-19 test.
"We will investigate the matter under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving causing death," he said, adding that no arrest was made.
