SEREMBAN: Two men have been remanded for six days over allegations that they offered RM75,000 in bribes to Tenaga Nasional Bhd employees to turn a blind eye to their power theft to mine bitcoin.
The order to remand the men, aged 49 and 50, was signed by special remand court assistant registrar Mas Azimimin Ahmad following an application by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Riduan Kadri.
It is learnt that the suspects had offered the bribes between August 2021 and January this year.
They had apparently been operating from several premises in the state.
The suspects, who were detained at the MACC office here on Monday, will be probed under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act.Offenders can be fined five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, and face a maximum jail term of 20 years.
