KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun (pic) has denied issuing a letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin saying the government had lost the majority support in Parliament.

Azhar Azizan said the allegation contained in a viral message attributed to a local news portal was false.

“I refute the report and I want to say that I have never issued any letter to the Prime Minister as reported. It is fake news,” Bernama quoted him as saying in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 11).

Earlier in the day, a WhatsApp message bearing the logo of the Suara.tv Bahasa Malaysia news portal had been widely circulated.

The message read "Perdana Menteri terima surat Speaker maklum tiada majoriti, mahu bubar Parlimen” (Prime Minister receives letter from Speaker informing him he has no majority, Parliament should be dissolved).

Suara.tv also published a denial on its website, saying that it had not published any such report and describing the message as "false and malicious".
