KUALA LUMPUR: The success of our national athletes at the Tokyo Olympic Games and Paralympic Games as well as Covid-19 frontliners received high praise from the King at the Dewan Rakyat.

To record the country’s appreciation, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah asked all MPs to rise and applaud the contributions of these athletes and frontliners.

“On this occasion, I would like to record my appreciation and congratulate all our athletes for their success at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games, and who had struggled to bring a good name to our country based on the prayers and support from all Malaysians,” he said.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Malaysia won a silver medal through national cycling champion Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang in the keirin event while Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik bagged a bronze medal in the men’s doubles in badminton.

As for the Paralympics, Malaysia won three gold medals through Abdul Latif Romly in the men’s T20 long jump, Cheah Liek Hou in the SU5 men’s singles badminton and Bonnie Bunyau Gustin in powerlifting.

His Majesty also thanked civil servants, the Armed Forces and the police along with other government agencies which continued to provide services to make Malaysia a safe, respected and prosperous country.

“While the country is facing the Covid-19 pandemic, the frontliners especially those in healthcare services, continued to work hard with dedication. Let us continue to support and express our highest gratitude to all the frontliners and those in the critical sectors for their services,” added the King.
