Melaka Polls: Asahan now shaping up to be six-cornered fight

       ASAHAN: The Asahan state seat where former chief minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron will contest at is shaping up to be a six-cornered fight.

       First to arrive to filen his candidacy for the Asahan state seat was 50-year-old Independent candidate Mohd Akir Ayob at 8.10am, followed by Idris at 8.33am

       Barisan Nasional’s Fairul Nizam Roslan arrived at 8.35am.

       At 8.55 am, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan visited the nomination centre for an inspection.

       Gerakan, which will be contesting under the Perikatan Nasional banner, will be fielding Dhanesh Basil, who arrived at the nomination centre at 9am.

       Another two Independent candidates Azmar Abd Hamid and Mohd Nor Salleh arrived at 9.09am and 9.15am, respectively, to file their papers.

       Filing of nominations papers at all 28 centres statewide began at 9am.

       The EC has set Nov 20 as the polling date for the Melaka state election and early voting on Nov 16.

       Melaka has 28 state constituencies, with a total of 495,196 registered voters, 254,666 or 51.43% of whom are women and the remaining 240,530 or 48.57% men.
