IPOH: A 26-year-old cook is the latest person to be charged with murder in the case of a man whose body was found floating in Sungai Kinta, Pasir Puteh on May 26.
Harjit Singh Terlok Singh was charged at a Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday (Oct 13) under Section 302 of the Penal Code for killing A. Preshnna, 40, at Jalan Che Puteh on May 23 between 7.30am and 5.30pm.
No plea was recorded.
According to the charge sheet, Harjit was said to have committed the offence together with Basharuddin Hammersla, S. Jeyenthiran, S. Simeon, T. Selvamani, V. Thiruganesh, and another person who is still at large.
On June 11, Basharuddin, Jeyenthiran, Simeon, Selvamani, Thiruganesh and another person were charged under the same section.
Basharuddin, Selvamani, Jeyenthiran and Simeon were also charged with kidnapping Preshnna under Section 364 of the Penal Code, which was read together with Section 34 of the same Code.
The offence carries the death sentence or a maximum of 30 years in jail and whipping, upon conviction.
Harjit was represented by Shabnam Haseen Mohamad Hanif while deputy public prosecutor Mohammad Haiqal Asyraf Suhaimi prosecuted.
DPP Mohammad Haiqal requested the case to be mentioned again on Thursday (Oct 14) for Harjit to be charged together with the other five individuals.
Magistrate Noor Azreen Liyana allowed the request.
