KUALA LUMPUR: Forty-eight motorcycles and four cars were destroyed in a fire at the PPR Intan Baiduri flats here.

       Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said police were alerted at 4.21am on Friday (March 4) about the case.

       "The Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene and managed to put out the blaze by 4.56am.

       "Police and Fire and Rescue Department forensic investigators are now at the scene to identify the cause of the fire," he said in a statement on Friday.

       He said no one was injured in the incident.

       "Initial investigations revealed that the fire started from a motorcycle which was parked at the main entrance of the motorcycle parking lot.

       "The fire quickly spread and engulfed 48 motorcycles and four cars," he said, adding that the estimated losses exceeded RM300,000.

       He said the case has been classified as arson under Section 435 of the Penal Code.

       Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Che Mohamad Azwan Che Rahim said they received a distress call at 4.22am.

       "We dispatched two fire engines, an emergency medical rescue services unit, as well as 15 firemen from the Jinjang and Gombak Selatan fire stations.

       "We took seven minutes to control the fire," he said.
