KANGAR: The Federal Government has approved a total of RM14mil for the Wang Kelian Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) project.

       Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this after attending a closed-door meeting with Perlis government officials.

       "During the visit, Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli requested additional allocations for the Wang Kelian ICQS Project, scanning machines at the land port and management of the state government.

       "Considering the urgent request, I have approved the RM14mil request to address congestion issues at the entry point," he said in a Facebook post on Monday (April 1).

       During the meeting, Anwar said they also spoke about Perlis' potential as a tourist destination and government subsidies of basic goods but maintained that food prices in the country are still lower than tourist destinations in neighbouring countries.

       Anwar arrived in Kangar at about 2.45pm on Monday for a short working visit.

       He was greeted by Mohd Shukri and state government executive councillors and officials.

       Also present was Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.

       Anwar and his entourage arrived at the Perlis State Assembly building to attend a meeting with the Mentri Besar, state executive councillors as well as heads of departments and agencies from both federal and state governments.

       The Dataran Kuala Perlis project, the Kuala Perlis Tourist Market, the construction of roads connecting the coastal road (R152) to Kuala Sanglang, and the maintenance of stalls and kiosks in the state were among the topics of discussion.

       After the meeting, Anwar spent about 15 minutes at a Ramadan bazaar on Persiaran Wawasan.

       Anwar also attended a Madani buka puasa event at Masjid Nurul Huda at Felda Chuping, where he handed over Aidilfitri contributions to the underprivileged.
