PETALING JAYA: Asymptomatic Covid-19 close contacts will no longer be required to undergo mandatory home quarantine, regardless of vaccination status, says the Health Ministry.

Its minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the new rule will come into effect from April 22.

Previously, only individuals who had received booster shots could be exempted from home surveillance orders (HSO).

“Asymptomatic close contact individuals would still be required to wear face masks when they are outdoors, avoid visiting crowded places, visiting high-risk groups and only travel when necessary,” he said on Thursday (April 14).

Symptomatic close contacts, however, would still be advised to self-isolate and encouraged to undergo a self Rapid Antigen Test (RTK-Ag) upon the symptoms on-set and on the third day.

“However, if the symptoms develop further, the individual is required to seek treatment at the nearest health facility.

“Positive cases will be managed in accordance with the Covid-19 case guidelines in place,” Khairy said.
