KUALA LUMPUR: The police have recorded a statement from celebrity preacher Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew, better known as Ebit Lew, to assist ongoing sexual harassment investigations.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said Ebit's statement was recorded at the federal police headquarters on Thursday (Aug 19).
"We recorded his statement to assist investigations under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1988.
"We will carry on with the investigations and refer the matter to the Attorney General's Chambers once it is completed," he said.
Comm Abd Jalil urged all parties not to speculate on the case as it might jeopardise the investigation.
"We also advise the public not to spread anything that might hamper the investigation," he added.
Meanwhile, Ebit claimed that he was called up to Bukit Aman to assist an ongoing investigation of slander against himself.
"I was at the Bukit Aman D11 in my capacity as a witness to assist the investigation into allegations and gossip against me.
"I will leave it to the police to investigate the matter further," he told reporters outside Bukit Aman once the recording of the statement was completed.
Ebit added that the police recorded his statement for more than one hour and he gave his full cooperation.
His lawyer Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican said so far, the police said there was no need for them to call up Ebit again in connection with the case.
