Azam Baki demonstration: Protesters gather under Bangsar LRT station

       11.18am: Protesters seen forming a line in front of a restaurant near the Bangsar LRT Station.

       11.11am: FRU trucks have arrived at Jalan Bangsar.

       11.01am: Dozens of protestors begin to gather under Bangsar LRT station. They are seen holding placards calling for action against Azam Baki. They can be heard asking people to observe physical distancing.

       10.52am: Police seen asking several demonstrators for their personal details.

       10.43am: Protestors have began to trickle in at Bangsar LRT station. A team of lawyers also seen standing by at the scene.

       9.30am: Jalan Pantai Baru and the New Pantai Expressway exit into Jalan Bangsar are already congested as police have rerouted traffic along five roads ahead of Azam Baki demonstration.

       8.30am: Five roads around the Bangsar LRT station have been closed since 7am. The roads closed are Jalan Bangsar, the turn off into Jalan Bangsar Utama, Jalan Travers, heading towards Jalan Bangsar, Jalan Rakyat, heading towards Jalan Bangsar and Jalan Maarof, heading towards Jalan Bangsar.

       PETALING JAYA: Police have closed five roads around the Bangsar LRT station since 7am on Saturday (Jan 22) in anticipation of a planned demonstration to demand action against Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

       On Friday (Jan 21) night, rally organisers decided to move the venue of street protest after police announced that the initial point of Sogo shopping mall as a prohibited area.

       The police have obtained an order from the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court banning any gatherings at Dataran Merdeka, Sogo and Masjid Jamek for seven days.

       Following the court order, the police would divert traffic along six major roads within Dang Wangi from 7am until the end of the gathering.

       “The roads involved are Jalan Kuching, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Maharajalela, Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Imbi and Jalan Sultan Ismail.

       “Operations at 25 MRT, LRT, Monorail and KTM stations within the Dang Wangi area will also be temporarily ceased from 7am,” Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya told reporters yesterday.

       A group calling itself the Arrest Azam Baki Action Committee says it will organise a protest to urge the authorities to take action in the share-trading case involving Azam Baki.

       In a statement on Telegram on Tuesday (Jan 18), the group said it would stage a rally outside Sogo in Kuala Lumpur at 11am on Saturday (Jan 22).

       The committee wants the authorities to arrest Azam immediately, initiate legal proceedings against him and reshuffle the MACC while putting it under the purview of Parliament.

       "The rakyat have been left without a satisfactory explanation from the government so the Arrest Azam Baki Action Committee will head to the streets to protest peacefully," the statement read.
