KOTA KINABALU: A total of 2,118 prisoners and detainees in the city here have been vaccinated under an outreach programme by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
UMS Hospital (HUMS) director Prof Dr Helen Benedict Lasimbang said prisoners and detainees were vaccinated with the single CanSino vaccine over five days under the programme from
Sept 12-17.
Apart from the Kota Kinabalu Central Prison in Kepayan, she said the vaccination was also carried out at the Kota Kinabalu Women's Prison on Monday (Sept 13) and the Kota Kinabalu police lock-up on Tuesday (Sept 14).
The team will carry out the inoculation drive for detainees at the temporary immigration depot for three days from Wednesday (Sept 15).
The outreach programme is being sped up by the UMS to help the Sabah government achieve 80% group immunity by the end of December 2021, she said.
Prof Lasimbang said UMS 12-member team was working together with Sabah Health Department and Kota Kinabalu City Hall.
Prof Lasimbang also disclosed that another UMS team had helped vaccinate 200 residents at Kampung Sepakat Jaya in Sepanggar near her today.
