GOMBAK: A Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer died when he was hit by a car after falling off his motorcycle while pursuing a motorcyclist who was running away from a roadblock near the Gombak toll plaza.
In the 9.30am incident yesterday, the motorcyclist had turned back upon seeing the roadblock on the motorcycle lane.
Gombak deputy OCPD Supt Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the motorcyclist was riding against the traffic flow on the emergency lane heading towards Sri Gombak.
He said the JPJ officer was believed to have lost control of his motorcycle, fell onto the left lane of the road and was then hit by a car.
Medical officers who arrived at the scene pronounced him dead.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, in a Facebook post, identified the officer as Muhammad Azizi Azizan, an assistant enforcement officer from Kuala Lumpur JPJ.
“Muhammad Azizi is an officer who was fully committed in performing his duties. His passing is a great loss to the ministry, especially the JPJ,” he said.
