MELAKA: What was supposed to be homes for people with disabilities or households earning less than RM3,000 a month and first-time homebuyers ended up a sick project at the final leg of completion.
The abandoned affordable housing in Klebang Kecil has 255 units in its first phase, with plans already drawn up for the second and third phases.
However, after three years, units have not been delivered to buyers which has saddened Barisan Nasional candidate for Klebang Datuk Lim Ban Hong.
"The project started when I was the Klebang state assemblyman and it was supposed to have been completed by the end of 2018.
"However, it hit a snag the same year after I lost the seat in the 14th General Election.
"I hope to revive it if given the mandate in the state polls this time, including other sick projects in the Klebang constituency.
"I will also fight for more affordable housing here, making it a key development so that people can afford to have a roof over their heads," he said.
Lim, who is also Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, also pledged to tackle issues of traffic jams in the area during weekends.
"The Klebang beachfront has been a popular choice for locals and tourists alike.
"We will focus on the coastal ring road development, including greening and improving facilities in the area," said Lim.
He added that despite losing the seat in the last general election, his Klebang service centre continued to serve the people, who have been contacting him and treating him like family.
"It is heartwarming to see the 'Malaysian Family' here and I will continue to deliver.
"Every vote counts and I will do my very best to make the people's support worthwhile," said Lim.
Lim will face off against Pakatan Harapan's Datuk Gue Teck and Perikatan Nasional's Bakri Jamaluddin in Klebang.
