JOHOR BARU: More 32 tonnes of acacia wood planks from Vietnam have been seized by the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) during an inspection at the Pasir Gudang Port here.
Johor Maqis director Hizzuan Hasim said the 32,090kg of planks worth RM13,653.88 were found in a shipping container at 5.30pm on Wednesday (Aug 11).
“An inspection revealed that the import permit number for the wood consignment was not stated in the phytosanitary certificate.
“All imported agricultural products must comply with the stipulated Maqis import requirements,” he said.
He added that failing to do so is an offence under Section 15(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728), which is punishable under Section 15(2) of the same Act.
The offence is punishable with a maximum fine of RM100,000 or jail term of not more than six years, or both upon conviction.
