A BBC journalist has captured the surreal moment, a Russian state TV presenter launched into a terrible Scottish accent.

BBC Monitoring correspondent Francis Scarr shared the clip of TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov attempting to do a Scottish accent live on air.

Solovyov was talking about Scottish independence when he decided to practice the accent.

After Francis posted the clip on Twitter he received a wave of responses mocking the Russian presenter.

Francis wrote: “Russian state TV’s Vladimir Solovyov has been working on his repertoire of foreign accents.

"His Scottish one is in need of some serious practice though.”

Solovyov said: “A free Ireland. By the way, Scotland should be free. Let me say this again.”

At this point, the presenter launched into a loud Scottish accent in English. He said: “Scottish brothers! You have to fight for your freedom!”

In response, one user said: “You need to create a YouTube montage of these. The Polish one is still my personal favourite.”

One user added: “Almost snorted the coffee. Thanks.”

Another user said the accident reminded them of a popular TV series. They said: “Considerably better than the Billy Boys in the sixth series of Peaky Blinders.”

This isn’t the first time the UK has been in the firing line of Solvyov’s comments. He has previously said the UK was a “pathetic, weak, and pretty destitute country”.

Alongside many other prominent figures, Solovyov was sanctioned soon after Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine began.

He recently compared an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin to the 9/11 attacks in 2001. He has been an anchor on Russian television since the early-2010s.
