JOHOR BARU: Three policemen have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly accepting bribes from lorry drivers.

It is understood that the three suspects are aged from 36 to 42 and were detained at around 7pm on Wednesday (March 27) at the Johor MACC office.

“The suspects were said to have requested bribes amounting RM7,800 from oil palm and fertiliser lorry drivers in the Mersing area.

“The suspects apparently accepted the money in November last year as an inducement not to take action against the drivers under the Road Transport Act 1987,” said a source on Thursday (March 28).

When contacted, Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed that the three had been detained for investigation under Section 17a of the MACC Act 2009.

The suspects are also expected to be brought to the Magistrate’s Court here to obtain a remand order on Thursday morning.
