KUALA LUMPUR: An uproar erupted in a famous Kuala Lumpur shopping centre when a customer without a mask threw a tantrum and insisted on being allowed into a luxury brand boutique.
A video captured by twitter user @DFEfiercefun was captioned: "Was in a que (sic)... No entry for no mask!!! The lady resisted and said those with masks are communists!! Applying "white entitlement" in Malaysia!!"
In the video, a Caucasian woman without a mask was seen complaining to the shopping centre staff that the boutique staff had put his hands on her to prevent her from entering, which was denied by the employee concerned.
The subsequent video posted online is captioned: "Tambah cili #findandfinekaren shows her still trying to enter the boutique and telling the staff that they can't stop her saying, 'It's a free country, you don't own the shop'."
It immediately went viral with Karen being one of the top three trending topics on social media.
Karen, incidentally, is the generic name used for self-entitled white women.
The tweet, which registered at 11.5k likes at press time garnered responses from netizens who were angry that the woman was not wearing a mask, and praising shopping centre and shop staff for maintaining strict SOP procedures as well as those saying that she should be sent back to her home country.
