Kate, Princess of Wales, 41, was formerly known as the Duchess of Cambridge but inherited the late Princess Diana's title when King Charles became the monarch in September 2022.

At this point, the new Princess of Wales made a subtle style change that only a few have noticed.

Kate was known for loving headbands, anything from custom-made velvet creations to gorgeous floral headpieces.

Royal fans worked out that Kate roughly had a £10,000 collection of headbands by the time she had been a working royal for 11 years.

However, since becoming the Princess of Wales, Kate has not sported the trend on any of her royal engagements.

Style expert Miranda Holder explained why this is likely the case: "Headbands used to be a regular part of Kate’s stylish fashion arsenal, but recently, they seem to have been dropped as a key accessory, in favour of more fully formed hats and headpieces.

"Headbands are a lovely way to finish off an outfit, adding height, colour, and a sense of formality to a range of occasions and they really suited Kate.

"But these days, the popular accessory (which still looks great on Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie) doesn’t fit with Kate’s more sophisticated and regal style aesthetic," she told Hello!.

The style expert claims that the closer Kate gets to becoming Queen Consort, the more regal and less girly her wardrobe will become.

One of Kate's most memorable headband moments was in 2018 when she brought her son Prince Louis to be christened at St James's Palace.

The Princess wore a white Jane Taylor headband which retailed for a whopping £960 at the time.

Known as the "Cassandra" headband, it featured a thick base and also had striking white flowers attached.

Other royals that love the headband trend are Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 33.

In addition, Lady Louise Windsor is also a fan of headbands, having worn them at Trooping the Colour and the Platinum Jubilee.

But the first royal to start the trend was actually the late Queen Elizabeth II.
