A homeowner shot and killed an alleged intruder Monday night in Montgomery County, the county police said.

       The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. in the 21000 block of Futura Court in the Germantown area, police said.

       The homeowner “reported that someone was attempting to break into his residence,” said Officer Casandra Durham, a police spokeswoman.

       It was reported that the homeowner and alleged intruder “may be acquaintances,” Durham said. But, she said, the extent of their acquaintanceship was not immediately known.

       She said an investigation was underway and detectives were interviewing the homeowner late Monday night.

       Neither the homeowner nor the man who was killed were identified immediately.
