KUANTAN: Pahang police have advised parents to always monitor their teenage children’s activities to prevent them from breaking traffic rules. State police chief Datuk Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said this was because most of the traffic offences here, which included riding a motorcycle without a licence, performing dangerous “wheelie” stunts and riding modified bicycles, known as “basikal lajak”, involved teenagers.

       “Parents need to give more attention to their teenage children and always know their whereabouts. They (teenagers) may find performing dangerous stunts on motorcycles or bicycles challenging.

       “Therefore, parents must ensure that their teenage children are not involved in such activities,” Bernama quoted him as saying at a press conference after observing a roadblock mounted during an integrated operation at Batu 3 Jalan Kuantan-Gambang here on Saturday night.

       The operation involved 135 personnel from the Pahang contingent police headquarters, Kuantan district police headquarters, Road Transport Department and Pahang Environment Department.

       Ramli said in the operation, a total of 155 summonses were issued for various traffic offences, including riding or driving without a valid licence, modifying vehicles without permission and riding motorcycles in a dangerous manner. A summons was also issued to a vehicle owner for violating the Environmental Quality Act.

       “Five motorcycles were impounded. Most of the traffic offenders were teenagers,” he said, adding that a man was arrested for doing “wheelies”, while two others were detained for drug-related offences.
