PETALING JAYA: Eateries can open between 6am and 10pm starting Monday (June 28), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister said the rule for eateries was relaxed after the government heard the views of the people.

Currently, eateries can only operate until 8pm.

While operating hours for eateries have been extended, Ismail Sabri said all other rules under the lockdown remain.

"As lockdown continues under Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan, other rules remain the same, whereby social activities are not allowed and the economic sectors remain closed, except those that have been listed under the National Security Council's (NSC) positive list," he said on Sunday (June 27).

Ismail also touched on the roles of the police, armed forces and other agencies conducting security operations during the lockdown.

He said the armed forces are in charge of the National Task Force through the implementation of OpsBenteng which guards the nation's borders against encroachment, while the police lead a task force on SOP compliance.

However, both police and armed forces personnel are involved in both operations along with personnel from other agencies.

"The armed forces guard the borders under Ops Benteng with the help of 11 other agencies, including the police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

"Meanwhile, the task force to monitor SOP compliance is led by the police with the help of the Armed Forces, the Civil Defence Force, the People's Volunteer Corps, local authorities and is conducted by mounting roadblocks and checks at public places," he said.

He said both task forces have been in place since MCO 1.0 and the responsibilities of the SOP compliance task force have been extended to monitor SOP compliance at factories.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the current lockdown, which comes under Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan, will continue until Covid-19 cases dip below the threshold of 4,000 cases required to move to the next phase.
