KUALA LUMPUR: A construction project developer was issued with a RM10, 000 compound notice for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP).

       Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the developer failed to provide temperature checks at the workers’ quarters located at the construction site near Pudu here.

       “We have issued the compound and instructed the developer to provide equipment for temperature checks, ” he told reporters after inspecting the site in an operation codenamed Ops Patuh yesterday.

       ACP Mohamad Zainal said the developer was also issued with a notice by the Kuala Lumpur Labour Department for poor accommodations for the workers.

       “We will take stern action against any developer who fails to adhere to the SOP at construction sites.

       “If they are still stubborn and fail to change, we have the authority to close down the site, ” he added as he called on all construction companies and developers to cooperate.

       “While the compound can be considered not much compared to the projects they are handling, violating the SOP will lead to the spread of the virus.

       “Our ultimate goal is to break the chain of infection, ” he said.

       Dang Wangi police deployed 21 compliance operations task force teams daily to monitor 29 construction sites in the area.

       “We will keep a close eye on the sites to ensure that all comply with the SOP, ” he added.

       Meanwhile, at the MRT construction site in Jalan Kia Peng, ACP Mohamad Zainal said the developer had fully complied with the requirements.

       “All SOP and safety aspects are fully adhered to, including providing temperature checks and MySejahtera app scanning.

       “The workers also wear face masks and maintain physical distancing. Clearly this is a standard that all sites should follow, ” he added.
