JOHOR BARU: The additional two million Covid-19 vaccine doses for Johor would help the state achieve herd immunity, says Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
The Sultan also expressed his appreciation to the government for the additional vaccines under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
"The spread of Covid-19 among the people is worrying. With the increase in vaccine supply, we could better protect the public.
"I would like to thank the government for the additional two million doses of vaccine to Johor," said Sultan Ibrahim in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday (Aug 9).
In a statement on Sunday (Aug 8), Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that the additional vaccines would include all types of vaccines that have been approved by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).
The vaccines would be distributed to all vaccination centres (PPV) in Johor.
Dr Adham said that as of Sunday (Aug 8), a total of 1,362,398 people in Johor had received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine while a total of 540,895 individuals had received both doses of the vaccine.
He said that 50.2% of the adult population in Johor had received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
On Sunday (Aug 8), Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim said he had a meeting with National Covid-19 Immunisation programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin at the Johor Royal Polo Club regarding the vaccination rate and vaccine supply in Johor.
“As a result of discussions, Johor will receive two million doses of vaccines in August with the first week seeing 324,940 doses, second week 564,234 doses, third week 340,150 doses, and fourth week 796,344 doses.
“I also decreed for the state government to open a special drive-thru PPV at Arena Larkin Johor Bahru to facilitate those with disabilities getting their vaccine doses,” he said in a Facebook post here on Sunday.
