KUALA LUMPUR: Unisem (M) Bhd expects about 2% of its total annual output volume to be affected as its plant in Pulai Jaya industrial estate has been ordered to shut down for two weeks due to the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

       In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, the global provider of semiconductor assembly and test service said the announcement was made by the National Security Council on July 24 to place the industrial estate under the EMCO until Aug 8.

       “Since Unisem is under the electrical and electronics, essential services sector, the company had applied and appealed to the authorities to be allowed to operate during the EMCO,” it said.

       Unisem said assuming the Ipoh plant is closed for the full duration of the above EMCO period, the capacity loss arising from the closure is about 2% of the group’s total annual output volume.

       It added the safety and well-being of its employees and local community are always its utmost priority.
