KOTA KINABALU: The people affected by the collapse of a 200m concrete bridge, a house and a fish market at a water village in Semporna district are reported to be in stable condition.

Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the seven victims, aged between 10 and 45, suffered minor injuries following the 7pm incident at Kg Bangau-Bangau on Wednesday.

“The victims, comprising five men and two women, were given early medical attention before they were sent to the hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“Those involved included four locals and three immigrants, and they are reported to be in stable condition and no fatalities were reported,” he said.

Following this, other residents of the water village were asked to stay away from the collapsed area, said Supt Mohd Farhan.

He said a family of five who lives beside the collapsed house was also asked to move out and take shelter elsewhere for the time being as the structure there was unsafe.

In the incident, the bridge, the house and the fish market were reported to have fallen into the sea after the wooden and concrete structures broke and gave way on Wednesday.

The seawater level at the time was around 1.5m high, he said.

Supt Mohd Farhan advised those with missing family members and those with information on the incident to contact Chief Insp Mustapha Abdul Majid from the Semporna police station at 010-551 7617, 089-782 020, or any police station.
