Health Ministry identifies 26 new Covid-19 clusters

       PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified 26 new Covid-19 clusters, taking the number of active clusters to 1,306.

       Of the clusters reported on Wednesday (Sept 22), 13 involved workplaces, seven community clusters, one involving high-risk groups and five were education-related.

       In its daily Covid-19 update, the ministry reported that the cluster with the highest number of cases involved a workplace in Batu Empat Tapah in Batang Padang, Perak where out of 882 people screened, those tested positive numbered at 131, with nine new infections reported on Wednesday.

       The Kampung Pinang Baru cluster in Dungun, Terengganu involving an education centre saw 58 individuals infected.

       A high-risk group cluster was named the Kampung Masjid Tanjung cluster in Kinta, Perak where 25 people have been infected.

       On Wednesday, the country reported 14,990 new cases including five imported cases.

       The locally transmitted cases involved 13,763 Malaysians and 1,115 foreigners.

       Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s cumulative number of infections now stood at 2,142,924.

       Selangor recorded the highest daily figure with 2,414 new Covid-19 infections, followed by Johor (1,880).

       Klang Valley saw 2,782 cases comprising Selangor (2,414), Kuala Lumpur (338) and Putrajaya (30).

       Of the 14,990 new cases reported, 97.7% or 14,652 were those in categories 1 and 2 while 338 are in categories 3, 4 and 5.
