EAIC hits back, says former IGP has no standing to comment on alleged 'police cartel'

PUTRAJAYA: Without producing evidence on claims of a cartel within the police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador has no right to comment on the issue, says the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC).

The former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) had branded the EAIC's findings, which concluded that there was no such cartel, as "shallow and incorrect" and claimed that Mohd Sidek was not familiar with "the system" in the police force.

In a statement on Monday (Feb 28) the EAIC said that Abdul Hamid did not provide any evidence to support his claim that there was a cartel within the police.

The EAIC also said that Abdul Hamid did not name anyone involved in the "cartel", nor did he raise the issue in any meeting involving Bukit Aman directors.

Additionally, despite Abdul Hamid claiming to know of the existence of the cartel since 2020, he did not take any appropriate action nor conduct a detailed investigation during his time in office, said the EAIC.

The statement was signed by EAIC chairman Sidek Hassan, his deputy and five commissioners.

On Feb 22, Mohd Sidek said the EAIC was unable to determine allegations that there was a "cartel" within the police force as claimed by Abdul Hamid before his retirement.

Witnesses in the EAIC investigation had also said that Abdul Hamid made the statement just before his contract as IGP ended in May 2021 and questioned the motive behind his disclosure.
