KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has denied allegations of lack of action over a series of crimes as claimed in a recent viral video.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan (pic) said police were investigating a four minute and 59 seconds-video, which had gone viral on WhatsApp.
"The video showed several incidents of individuals being beaten up allegedly by members of an NGO and claimed that police had not taken action.
"We discovered the incidents portrayed in the video were crimes committed in Selangor and Penang," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 9).
Claims in the video were false as police had taken actions over the incident and those responsible had also been brought to court, he added.
"The act of spreading statements that can cause public distress and alarm is an offence under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
"We will take stern action against those responsible for such acts," said Comm Abd Jalil.
