MELAKA: Handphone outlets are among 23 premises that faced power cuts in a joint operation between Tenaga Nasional (TNB) and police on Thursday (Feb 24).
Melaka CID chief Asst Comm Lim Meng Seah said the disconnection of electricity supply was carried out at ten premises at Melaka Tengah, eight in Alor Gajah and five in Jasin for allegedly conducting illegal gambling activities.
"Some of these premises were raided previously, but the operators were still stubborn and continued operating.
"There were also grocery shops that had their electricity supply disconnected," he said on Thursday (Feb 24).
ACP Kim said police have disconnected power supplies at 96 premises since the beginning of the year.
He added that 71 individuals were arrested for alleged involvement in online gambling, while 36 others for illegal lottery since this January.
