KLANG: The matter related to an altercation between a civil servant and a Selangor executive councillor will not be pursued after the latter apologised, says the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs).

"The Yang Berhormat has apologised and it is understandable as he was 'hot' (angry) during the incident," said its president Adnan Mat on Tuesday (Oct 26).

Adnan had recently asked the Selangor exco member and Kota Kemuning assemblyman V. Ganabathirao to apologise to the Klang Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) deputy director for ticking him off loudly in public.

The incident happened on Oct 23 after Ganabathirao lost his cool over the continuous flooding of Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam, which falls under his constituency.

The assemblyman has since apologised for his outburst and has been quoted as saying he had spoken out in the best interest of his constituents.

"I voiced it out in my capacity as the area's elected representative.

"I realise I had acted roughly and I apologise sincerely to those involved," Ganabathirao was quoted as saying at a press conference at his office on Monday (Oct 25).

Ganabathirao had posted the video of him taking the civil servant to task on his Facebook Timeline on the day of the incident.

He explained in subsequent posts that he hit the roof after the civil servant, who was the Klang JPS deputy director, kept giving excuses without answering questions.

Ganabathirao added he had addressed the JPS deputy director as “Tuan” initially but lost his cool eventually.

Ganabathirao said the JPS deputy director gave him indefinite solutions to address the flooding problem in the area and did not value his (Ganabathirao's) findings jointly with the Shah Alam City Hall engineering team over the issue.

The assemblyman said he “exploded” after the deputy director kept saying “U tak tahu” (you don't know).

Meanwhile, Adnan said Cuepacs hoped everyone regardless of their positions will come together to serve the nation as one united Malaysian Family.

"We also want everyone regardless of their positions to respect each other.

"Cuepacs will continue to serve the government to achieve the people's aspirations," he added.

The Taman Sri Muda flooding issue has been a major bane for residents for years.

Poor drainage and clogged waterways result in houses and roads being inundated whenever there is a downpour.
