KOTA KINABALU: Police believe they have crippled a drug ring with the seizure of over 4kg of syabu worth some RM240,000 in Tawau.
A 31-year-old local man was also arrested in the sting operation at a housing area on Thursday (Jan 18).
Tawau police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said anti-narcotics police from the Sabah contingent as well as district police conducted the raid at 5.55pm following a tip-off.
"The suspect tried to escape but the team managed to apprehend him," he said in a press conference on Sunday (Jan 21).
He said police also seized a black plastic bag from the man and found four packets of drugs disguised as herbal tea.
"The packets contained syabu weighing 4,033.87g," he said, adding that they also seized a car belonging to the suspect.
He added that the suspect, a former convict, had a record of 15 crimes, including for drug possession and abuse. He also tested positive for ketamine and methamphetamine.

"The man has been remanded until Jan 26 for investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act," ACP Jasmin said.
