KUALA LUMPUR: Organisers of the #TangkapAzamBaki demonstration in Bangsar will be called in for questioning, says city police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim.

       The police, he said, would identify the organisers of the rally and record their statements soon.

       “No untoward incidents occurred during the demonstration which started at around 11am and ended at 12.45pm.

       “I would like to advise the public to refrain from taking part in such activities which could lead to the spread of Covid-19,” he said when contacted.

       He reminded the public that the country was still under Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan and processions as well as public assemblies were prohibited.

       Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the situation within his police district was peaceful and under control.

       “We reopened the six roads which we had closed in stages between 10.30am and 11am on Saturday,” he said.

       Over in Bangsar, police reopened the five affected roads to traffic about 30 minutes after the rally dispersed at around 12.45pm.

       It was initially reported that the rally calling for action against Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki over his share-trading controversy was to take place at Sogo yesterday morning.

       Dang Wangi police, however, obtained a court order on Thursday prohibiting any protest at Sogo, Masjid Jamek and Dataran Merdeka.Police also announced the closure of six major roads in Kuala Lumpur from 7am as well as 25 LRT, MRT, Monorail and KTM stations.

       Following this move, the Tangkap Azam Baki Committee announced that they would move their protest to the road below the Bangsar LRT Station along Jalan Bangsar.
