MELAKA: The post-mortems on the bodies of the couple involved in an apparent murder-suicide pact have yet to be conducted, says the state police chief.
Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Abdul Majid said the procedure has been put on hold as the 22-year-old woman tested positive for Covid-19 at her time of death on Feb 19.
"We believe the 33-year-old man was also a close contact and hence the post-mortems have yet to be conducted on both of them," he said after opening the Bemban police station here on Tuesday (Feb 22).
"Our initial investigation also showed that there was no involvement of a third party that had led to the incident," he added.
DCP Abdul Majid said the police are looking at various angles and will wait for the post-mortem reports before completing the investigation on the incident.
The couple was found lifeless in a pool of blood when police arrived at a house in Jalan Pegaga, Taman Merdeka at about 4pm on Saturday (Feb 19).
Police also found a kitchen knife inside the house believed to be used to stab the woman and later the man apparently used it to take his own life.
The woman had four stab wounds.
In an unrelated development, DCP Abdul Majid said Melaka police has mobilised 308 officers and personnel to assist with the Johor election.
He said the contingent has also dispatched its Light Strike Force (LSF) and traffic unit to Johor.
Meanwhile, DCP Abdul Majid said the contingent is moving to a digital platform for combating crime and enhancing community policing, adding that the contingent would gradually use technology to carry out enforcement and crime-fighting.
"Our pilot project on using the digital platform will be launched at Jonker Walk," he added.
