A MUM-of-two has been left bemused after being turned down for a job at a school she applied for - eight years ago.

Businesswoman Zoe Johnson was surprised when she received a message on LinkedIn breaking the bad news.

But Zoe, 39, was not too disheartened by the rejection, as she has since started her own skincare business since applying for the role.

She said: “It was quite to the point and I thought saying ‘thanks I wasn’t waiting on it’.

“It was just funny - because when you send the message on LinkedIn they can accept or reject it. She chose to reject it so I couldn’t respond to it and say anything.

“I don’t get why she bothered either all these years later? When I originally messaged her it was quite a long but polite message.

“I asked who would be the best person to speak to etc. But the exact response was ‘Hi Zoe, thanks for reaching out, but I’m not interested. Thanks for reaching out’".

Zoe presumed she had not received the teaching assistant job near her home in Canterbury, Kent in 2013, when she didn't hear back.

She then continued to work on her skincare business, ZoeBee Beauty while working other odd jobs.

After being first founded near Canterbury in 2012, the business took off in 2016 with it now employing six people including her husband Theo.

Zoe applied to the teaching role a year after launching her business, hoping it would keep her afloat.

Although teaching assistants aren’t very well paid she thought that she could work the role around her business.

Investment Platform Invezz has suggested it's surprising that the school replied so long after the job was posted.

It added that with huge numbers of job vacancies across the UK, it would be unwise for employers to be so “curt” with prospective employees.

A spokesman said: “It’s never a good idea to be rude to people applying to work for you. It won’t endear them or anyone else to apply.

“And with the market being massively in favour of workers at the moment it puts the ball firmly in their court.”
