PETALING JAYA: Counter services for the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Land Public Transport Agency (Apad), Puspakom and Marine Department will not be available in areas in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur that are affected by the latest round of the enhanced movement control order (MCO).
The Transport Ministry (MOT) had earlier announced on June 30 the re-opening of counter services nationwide under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan for transactions and services that were not available online.
However, in a statement yesterday, MOT said the earlier arrangement had been shelved for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, with the exception of specific areas within Kuala Lumpur that were not affected by the enhanced MCO.
It said for logistics and commercial companies, travel letters issued under the Logistics Industry Information System (SMILE) were still valid for use and applicants did not need to download a new letter if they had been granted one previously, according to the ministry.
As announced previously, trains, buses and ferries will still be allowed to operate but at half capacity, even as airports and ports continue to operate as normal.
Commercial transportation and activities related to the supply chain of essential services via land, air and sea are allowed during the enhanced MCO period, including food and parcel delivery services.
Port services and related enterprises including shipyards, lighterage (the process of transferring cargo between vessels of different sizes, cargo types and commodities), pilotage, loading and unloading within port areas are also permitted during this period.
Loading and unloading activities outside port areas under the enhanced MCO are permitted only for approved essential services, while the number of passengers allowed on commercial and logistics vehicles are subject to their respective vehicle registrations.
