PETALING JAYA: Two men have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a convenience shop in Kelana Jaya here.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said the incident occurred at around 1.30pm on Monday (Feb 14).
"We received a report from a woman in her 40s who claimed she was robbed at knife point.
"She claimed she was working at the counter of the shop when a man came in pretending to be a customer," he said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 17).
He said the man approached the counter as if to pay for something before brandishing a knife and demanding money.
"Fearing for her safety, the woman handed over about RM500 from the cash register to the suspect before he fled the scene.
"Based on information gathered, a team from Petaling Jaya CID arrested two men, aged 23 and 34 years old, in Kelana Jaya and Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (Feb 16)," he said, adding that police seized clothes and a knife believed to be have been used in the robbery.
He said checks revealed both suspects had criminal records for drug-related crimes.
"During initial interrogations, both suspects revealed their involvement in armed robberies of convenience shops in Kelana Jaya.
"We have connected them to three similar cases in the area," he said, adding that both suspects have been remanded for five days to assist investigations.
