A 14-year-old boy has been stabbed to death in a horrific attack on board a bus in London.
Police swarmed the bus in Woolwich, south-east London, shortly before 2.28pm on Tuesday as paramedics set up screens.
Dramatic pictures from the scene show a huge emergency service presence, including at last three police cars, an ambulance, several other ambulance cars and an air ambulance.
Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendent Louise Sargent confirmed the attack which she described as "a horrendous crime."
Sargent said the boy was treated at the scene but "really sadly" died shortly after their arrival. She also confirmed no arrests have yet been made but that police were working hard to find out who was involved.
The Chief Superintendent added: "I know this will be a worrying time for everyone here in Woolwich, and all the more so given the very young age of the victim.
"The community can expect to see an enhanced police presence around the scene and the surrounding area."

At the scene, three police community support officers, a police car and van were at the Woolwich Ferry roundabout near where the 14-year-old boy was attacked.
A highway maintenance incident response team were also seen helping to block the Woolwich Church Street junction on the roundabout, which has been cordoned off.
Police cordons and road closures remain in place whilst emergency services carry out enquiries.
Speaking after the incident, Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan said:? "My thoughts are with the family, friends and wider community in Greenwich following the appalling fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy.
"This heart-breaking violence has absolutely no place in our city. I am in close contact with police leaders – an investigation is underway and local residents will see increased patrols in the local area."
A young woman whose flat overlooks the scene where a 14-year-old boy was stabbed on a bus in Woolwich on Tuesday afternoon said she is "terrified" to walk home at night.
She said: "It’s really worrying because I often go home at night. I’m really scared to be out here."
The incident comes less than 24 hours after an 18-year-old school pupil was left fighting for his life after being knifed near his college in nearby Shooters Hill.
The attack happened at about 4.20pm in Prince Imperial Road, with Shooters Hill Sixth Form College confirming the victim was a Year 12 student.
Principal Geoff Osborne said: "At approximately 4.20pm yesterday, in Prince Imperial Road close to the college, a young man who is in Year 12 at Shooters Hill Sixth Form was stabbed.
"This incident continues to be investigated by the police, and we are not in a position to release more details other than that the young man is receiving medical care for his injuries.
"The college is offering support and counselling to anyone who has been affected by the incident. Our thoughts are with the family and the victim, and we ask that everyone respects their privacy at this difficult time."
