JOHOR BARU: Malaysia is seeing more cyber attack attempts against its security system, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The Defence Minister added that following the ongoing Palestine and Israel conflict, Malaysia recorded an average of 3,000 cyber attacks per day.

There was an increase in cyber-attacks made against the national security system following Malaysia’s support for Palestine, said the Umno vice-president.

“The men and women in our security forces work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to defend Malaysia’s sovereignty and make us safer from threats.

“From patrols to operations along our borders, the Armed Forces is also responsible for handling cybersecurity issues in our country,” he said after visiting the Malaysian Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) on Saturday evening (March 30).

Khaled added that the foreign hackers were attempting to infiltrate Malaysia’s defence system to spy, listen, and monitor the country’s military operations.

Meanwhile, Khaled also congratulated the police for arresting a 36-year-old Israeli man at a hotel along Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the Defence Ministry was willing to help the police in their investigation against the Israeli man.

“We are ready to help if there is a request, but it is a matter of home security in the country, which falls under the jurisdiction of the police.

“We believe the police are capable of carrying out their responsibilities well in investigating the matter,” he said.
