Is the moment finally here? For the span of a generation, Venezuela’s opposition has toiled fitfully and, at times, ineffectually to claw back power from an increasingly autocratic regime entrenched in Caracas. They mobilized mass demonstrations and endured brutal crackdowns. They saw myriad false dawns, intense factional infighting and constant intimidation and attacks by forces loyal to President Nicolás Maduro, who has ruled since the death of the charismatic socialist demagogue Hugo Chávez in 2013.
