JOHOR BARU: A former bank officer has claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to 13 charges of criminal breach of trust involving almost RM300,000.

Nurfahana Atiqah Mohamad, 30, pleaded not guilty before judge Fatimah Zahari yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, she committed the offence at a bank in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai between April 2017 and November 2018.

Nurfahana, who was a personal financial adviser at the bank, was said to have transferred RM292,175 belonging to two of her customers into three other bank accounts.

A total of 13 transactions of between RM3,549 and RM30,000 were made.

Out of these, six were to the bank account of a 26-year-old man, four into her own personal bank account while three transactions were made into the account of a company.

She was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between one and 14 years, whipping and a fine.

Deputy public prosecutor M. Raveenaa urged the court to set bail at RM20,000.

The accused was represented by lawyer Azalea Nazihah Zulkefli, who appealed for a lower bail.

Azalea told the court her client was unemployed and had a one-year-old baby to care for.

She also said Nurfahana was suffering from anxiety and was on medication.

Fatimah set bail at RM14,000 with one surety and set July 3 for the next mention of the case, along with submission of documents.

       The accused posted bail.
