PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has decided that electricity tariffs will not be increased for the nine million domestic users in the country, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic).

“In line with this, the government has decided to continue with subsidies of more than RM700mil so domestic consumers will not be affected,” the Prime Minister said in a tweet on Friday (Jan 28).

On Thursday (Jan 27), Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the government would implement new electricity tariff rates on Feb 1 that will be in effect from 2022 till 2024.

He said the announcement on the new parameters of the Incentive-Based Regulation under Regulatory Period 3 would be made soon.

However, Takiyuddin assured the public the new tariff rates would not burden the people, especially domestic consumers or households.

He said the matter was brought to the Cabinet six times for discussion and that the matter was finalised during this week’s meeting.
