A TRADE organisation representing shop owners in Ipoh’s Little India is understood to be planning a peaceful demonstration over the upcoming Deepavali bazaar in the area, reported Makkal Osai.

This follows Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin’s recent announcement that the council would allow the Deepavali bazaar to take place between Oct 28 and Nov 3.

The Ipoh kacang putih sellers association reportedly received permission on Oct 14 to put up 12 stalls selling traditional snacks and food in Jalan Lahat.

Ipoh City councillor Thilak Raj Gun, who assisted the kacang putih sellers in getting approval for the stalls, said he was aware of the grouses from the shop owners.

He said the shop owners had also written to the council highlighting their concerns.

The bazaar could not be held last year due to the pandemic, and this affected the traders who usually see significant sales during the festival season.
