Organised as part of the Autonomy trade show in Paris, the Startup Challenge rewarded international innovations contributing to the advance of sustainable mobility. Here are the seven winners for 2024.

       Smarter car-sharing

       Danish startup Nabogo intends to revolutionise the car-sharing concept by making it more accessible and directly integrated into the public transport offer. The idea is to complement existing transport networks by offering pick-up points at major stations and terminus points. In addition to Denmark, Nabogo is now also present in Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands.

       British firm d(risk) is working on innovative solutions to improve the performance and safety of connected and partly autonomous vehicles. Using artificial intelligence, the startup offers online tools to simulate unexpected driving situations that could lead to accidents. To do this, its platform is equipped with an impressive amount of geolocalised data, which the AI adapts to every possible type of incident, with the emphasis on protecting the driver and passengers. Today, its services are used by automakers and insurance companies alike.

       Helping to expand cleaner fleets

       London-based Papaya is developing a software platform to help fleet operators acquire, manage and operate their fleets of electric vehicles. Its aim is to help reduce CO2 emissions on the road by supporting the development of new, cleaner fleets.

       Electric cargo scooters

       In Singapore, Mimo has developed an electric cargo scooter designed to improve city logistics, and in particular, last-mile delivery. Professionals will be able to transport goods, while private customers can look forward to running errands on this practical e-scooter.

       Making smart use of recycled batteries

       British startup Allye specialises in mobile energy storage solutions based on recycled batteries, mainly for the industrial and commercial sectors. The idea is to provide an alternative to traditional diesel generators.

       Paving the way for autonomous vehicles

       Simulytic is an initiative launched by Siemens to accelerate the deployment of large-scale autonomous mobility. Simulytic uses AI-powered simulation and analysis technologies to provide insurers in particular with an accurate assessment of the risk associated with autonomous vehicles. The aim is to facilitate the underwriting of risks associated with the deployment of the first vehicles of this type.

       Dynamic management of traffic lights

       French startup Wisp has developed an ingenious dynamic traffic light management system for municipalities. Powered by AI, it should not only help to regulate traffic, especially during rush hour, but also contribute to cleaner air and a partial reduction in noise pollution. But the primary objective is to save time for motorists. Initial tests have already been carried out at intersections in Narbonne and Toulouse. – AFP Relaxnews
